Henry Cejudo has disclosed the substantial earnings Mike Tyson is anticipated to receive for his bout against Jake Paul.
Nearly two weeks have passed since the announcement that Mike Tyson, the erstwhile heavyweight champion of the world, is scheduled to face Jake Paul, the YouTuber who has transitioned into boxing, on July 20th. This match, to be aired live on Netflix, marks the platform’s debut in broadcasting a boxing match.
Following this announcement, there has been much speculation and discussion about the potential earnings from the fight, with various numbers circulating online. This speculation has been further amplified by comments from Henry Cejudo, a renowned figure in the MMA world.
On his podcast, with Kamaru Usman as his co-host, Cejudo discussed Paul’s decision to take on Tyson, who is three decades his elder, suggesting the financial incentives are incredibly persuasive.
“I mean, you know what I respect, Uncle Mike… But it obviously takes two to tango. I feel like there is probably a really good payday for Mike. He’s probably going to wind up making close to about 20 million, and he’s about to turn 58 years old,” he said, according to GiveMeSport.
Tyson, whose professional boxing career spanned 20 years with a record of 50 wins and 6 losses, last competed in a 2020 exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr in Los Angeles, which concluded as a draw.
Tyson has been active in the boxing community, assisting former UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou in his preparation for a bout against Tyson Fury, which ended in a controversial defeat for Ngannou despite him managing to knock Fury down in the third round.
Paul, on the other hand, has recently begun to make his mark in boxing, achieving a knockout victory over Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico shortly before the announcement of his fight against Tyson.
Paul approaches this fight on a streak of three victories, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury in February of the previous year.
In his brief boxing tenure, Paul has secured victories against figures such as Andre August and former UFC fighters Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz, showcasing his growing prowess in the sport.
