Peter Sagan thought he had moved past the shock after undergoing heart surgery in February.
However, it turns out that there are still issues. The cycling icon’s heart is not functioning properly, so he must undergo surgery again.
The 34-year-old Slovak announced this on Instagram. “Hi there! While I was training on the rocky trails in Marseille, my heart hit a few bumps.”
However, he assures that it’s nothing serious and he doesn’t anticipate a long break from what he loves most.
“Nothing to worry about, you could say that my heart needs a pit stop. I will undergo surgery next week and thanks to my friend, sports cardiologist Dr. Roberto Corsetti, I am sure I will be back in the saddle very soon. Stay tuned here, I’ll keep you updated.”
Initially, Peter Sagan was unpleasantly surprised during the Chelva race in Spain when his heart suddenly raced, and his pulse reached more than 200 beats per minute.
This led to surgery at a hospital in Ancona, Italy.
At the turn of the year, Sagan retired from road cycling to focus on mountain biking instead.
Currently, he dreams of winning a medal at this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
