There have been reports of Arsenal’s significant interest in Ivan Toney for a long time, but now it appears that the English club has abandoned their pursuit of him.

Arsenal has decided to end their pursuit of Brentford’s Ivan Toney in favor of seeking other forward options for the upcoming transfer window, as confirmed by a reliable source to Football Insider.

The club, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta and the recruitment team, has shifted focus away from the 27-year-old striker, deeming him not an ideal match for the team’s future plans.

Recent reports from Football Insider on March 15 indicated that Arsenal, alongside Chelsea, are eyeing Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres for a summer acquisition.

The sought-after Swedish international is reportedly available for a transfer if his £85 million release clause is met.

Insiders believe Gyokeres’ comprehensive skill set, which includes scoring and creating goals, aligns perfectly with Arsenal’s scouting criteria, making him a prime target.

Despite Toney’s return from suspension in January and contributing four goals in nine matches this Premier League season, his potential departure from Brentford, where he is contracted until June 2025, seems imminent.

On the other hand, Gyokeres boasts an impressive record of 33 goals and 13 assists in the Portuguese league this season since his move from Coventry in the summer of 2023.

Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League standings with 10 matches remaining, looks to bolster their attack, currently spearheaded by Bukayo Saka with 16 goals.
