Kylian Mbappe is expected to transfer to Real Madrid this summer, and now the Spanish giant club has issued him his first ultimatum.
Real Madrid has issued a directive to the French Football Federation, stipulated in a letter mentioned by L’Equipe, that dictates any of their players summoned for this summer’s Euros will be restricted from participating in the Paris Olympics in July.
This mandate encompasses Aurelien Tchoumeni, Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy, and notably Kylian Mbappe, who is slated to join Real Madrid in the upcoming summer.
The club’s stance is to safeguard their athletes’ well-being, aiming to avoid the risk of exhaustion due to national duties preceding the new season. This decision follows Barcelona’s experience with Pedri in 2021, who, after playing in both the Euros and Olympics in the same summer, has faced recurring injury issues.
Consequently, it is anticipated that Mbappe will comply with Real Madrid’s directive, limiting his summer participation to a single tournament rather than two.
The same policy is enforced on Real Madrid’s players who are to compete in the Copa America, such as Fede Valverde, Vinicius, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo, barring them from playing in both the Olympics and Copa America.
National teams have the option to call up three players over the age of 23 for the Olympics, potentially placing several Real Madrid players in a position to engage in dual tournaments during the summer, should they receive permission.
