Mike Tyson has recently unveiled a video capturing the initial phase of his training regimen as he prepares for a highly debated boxing match against Jake Paul this upcoming summer.
The announcement made last week that Tyson, a 57-year-old retired boxing heavyweight, would come out of retirement to face Paul, a YouTuber who turned professional boxer 30 years his junior, has sparked considerable attention.
Scheduled for July 20 at Texas’s AT&T Stadium, the match, which will be streamed worldwide on Netflix, is still shrouded in mystery concerning its rule set.
Tyson’s last professional bout was in 2005, but he returned to the ring for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr in 2020. That event featured eight two-minute rounds with no knockouts permitted.
Rumors have circulated that this match with Paul might adhere to professional rules under the Texas Boxing Commission, and there have been denials of any plan to wear protective headgear during the fight.
Tyson appears to be approaching the upcoming bout with seriousness, having commenced his training with still four months to go.
The footage shared by Tyson on Thursday shows the boxing icon, who will be 58 at the time of the Paul fight, demonstrating his formidable speed and power in the gym, reminiscent of his peak years. In the video, Tyson fiercely attacks the punching bag with a series of powerful combinations, indicating his readiness for the challenge ahead.
“It’s day one, the fun has just begun,” the 57-year-old boxer says in the video, which has been shared on the social media platform X.
