The Russian Daniil Medvedev is convinced that someone will stop Jannik Sinner, who has had a fantastic start to the 2024 season.
Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have set the bar high with their impressive winning streaks in recent ATP Tour seasons. Now, Jannik Sinner has stepped into the limelight, remaining undefeated in 2024 and aligning himself with these Grand Slam victors.
Kicking off the year with two titles under his belt, including his first Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open, Sinner has secured his place in the quarterfinals at Indian Wells.
Medvedev, competing in the same tournament, shared his thoughts on Sinner’s remarkable 15-match winning streak during a post-match interview. He described the momentum of consecutive wins as a “great feeling.”
“At one moment it always stops. I think Novak Djokovic has the record, 46 or something. Still, someone stopped him. I don’t even know who it was,” he said, according to Sportskeeda.
Although Medvedev acknowledged Djokovic’s record for the most auspicious season starts, he also mentioned that even the best streaks eventually conclude.
Focusing on Sinner, Medvedev remarked on the Italian’s soaring confidence. He expressed his determination to overcome Sinner should they meet on the court, aiming to end the young player’s unbeaten run.
“But if me or someone else is playing Jannik Sinner, I do think in the locker room doesn’t make much,” Daniil Medvedev said. “You know, you go on the court, you try to win. You know, the more wins, the more titles you have in your career, Grand Slams, whatever, the more you have the confidence in yourself that I could do it, that you can do it. Yeah, so not much more to add, for sure. Confidence helps him, but there is going to be someone who will stop him. Maybe not here; maybe later. If I play him, I will try my best to win.”
