Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has agreed to restructure his contract.
The two-time league MVP agreed to restructure his contract to free up $21.6 million in salary cap space for the Chiefs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Chiefs had also restructured Mahomes’ contract in 2023, allowing him to earn $208.1 million between 2023 and 2026. This is the largest amount in NFL history for a contract of this length.
Therefore, the Chiefs will have more money to sign free agents in hopes of building another Super Bowl-contending team as they aim for an unprecedented three-peat.
Therefore, Mahomes agreeing to restructure his agreement with the team could be a great help for the Chiefs in the future.
It is not specifically known how the 28-year-old quarterback has agreed to restructure his deal. It could be in the form of deferred salary or an extension of the contract period.
Mahomes might also have agreed to give up part of his salary. Whether that is the case is not known. What is certain, however, is that it is a significant help for the Chiefs.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback for the Chiefs in 2018, Mahomes has guided the team to appear in six straight AFC Championship Games and make four trips to the Super Bowl.
