The legend has admitted that he looks forward to Jürgen Klopp leaving his position as Liverpool’s coach this summer.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has praised the departing Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp highly after the top match against Manchester City (1:1). However, he couldn’t resist a slight jab, obviously not meant too seriously.
“I wish he wasn’t Liverpool’s manager, and I’ll be glad when he’s gone – from a selfish perspective. Because as long as he’s here, Liverpool has a great chance of being successful,” said the “Sky UK” analyst after the spectacular 1:1 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City.
Both Pep Guardiola and Klopp are “incredible coaches.” But: “I’ve always leaned a bit more towards Klopp. He has great resources, but less than Guardiola. The way he plays football is more how I see football. Pep is an absolute genius, but Klopp is such a big personality. A huge character,” said Neville, comparing the German to coaching legend Sir Alex Ferguson, under whom Neville played his entire career.
Ferguson had “this ability to connect with the people at Old Trafford,” said the former United defender. He believes that “Klopp does the same for Liverpool.”
Although Neville hopes that Klopp will leave the big coaching stage at the end of the season, his departure would be a “bitter loss” for Liverpool and the entire English league.
