Former Nottingham Forest Star Expresses His Frustration With Taiwo Awoniyi

Ex-Nottingham Forest player Kelvin Wilson has called on Taiwo Awoniyi, the Super Eagles striker, to enhance his performance and start scoring more consistently.

Awoniyi has spent a significant portion of the season sidelined with injuries, missing out on eleven matches in the Premier League, significantly impacting Forest’s performance.

As a result, Nuno Espirito has been cautious with Awoniyi’s playing time, only starting him in one of the team’s recent three matches at City Ground.

His sporadic appearances have inevitably affected his scoring, with just six goals to his name this season, making him the second top scorer for the team.

In a discussion on the Forest Focus podcast, as reported by Nottingham Forest News, Wilson voiced his concerns over Awoniyi’s current situation, emphasizing the team’s dependence on his form.

“Have we got time to be patient? Time is running out but we need him to start firing now. I know he’s been injured but the pressure is on and we need him to perform,” he said.

“Ideally, we’d be mid-table and we could keep bringing him on for the last 20 minutes to get his fitness up. We don’t have the luxury to give him time, we need him to be scoring goals.”

With Nottingham Forest just a few points clear of the relegation zone, they are facing the threat of dropping down to the Championship.

To avoid relegation, the team is looking towards Awoniyi to replicate his end-of-season performance from last year, where he was instrumental in preserving their Premier League status with six goals and an assist in the final four matches.
