Atalanta’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, acknowledges the enhanced attacking contribution of Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman to the team this season.
Gian Piero Gasperini pointed out that Ademola Lookman, previously averaging six to seven goals a season, has elevated every aspect of his game.
After transferring to Atalanta in the summer of 2022 for €15 million, Lookman had an outstanding first season in Italy’s premier league, amassing 15 goals and eight assists across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has continued his impressive performance into the current season, contributing eight goals and three assists in 21 Serie A appearances.
While Gasperini commended Lookman’s development in goal-scoring, he emphasized the need for the ex-Everton player to be more assertive in matches by venturing into the attack zone more frequently to cement his position as a pivotal figure in the team.
“We all see the potential and speed of Lookman, but it must be admitted that he didn’t used to play so offensively. He used to score six or seven goals a year, whereas now he is quick, skilled in dribbling, and even strong in heading,” Gasperini told Pazzi di Fanta.
“I encourage him because sometimes he hides from the game, but I believe that when he approaches the penalty area, he can become a key player for our team.”
