NBA superstar LeBron James is expanding his investment portfolio by venturing into golf.
The PGA Tour is set to receive prominent and financially potent backing. It has been officially announced that NBA superstar LeBron James and rapper Drake are investing in the golf association.
The basketball player and the musician are part of a group that is injecting a total of three billion dollars (approximately 2.78 billion euros) into the PGA Tour.
Moreover, James and Drake will serve as marketing powerhouses, leveraging their global fame to promote the sport.
Drake Expresses His Love for Golf
Alongside the duo, who also own shares in the Italian soccer club AC Milan, actors like Chris Pratt and NBA player agent Maverick Carter are among the investors.
Drake commented on the deal, stating, “Golf can be so much more than a sport,” reflecting on some of his fondest childhood memories associated with golf.
He added, “Investing in a sports club is one thing, but helping one of the world’s biggest leagues to reposition itself is an incredible opportunity, and I’m proud to be part of it.”
Golf is currently experiencing a dynamic period. Recently, there was speculation about a merger between the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour, which is financed by the Saudi Arabian state fund PIF, following years of disputes and player departures.
This is far from the first time that sports stars have participated in an investment of this magnitude. Previously, boxer Anthony Joshua and golfer Rory McIlroy have invested in the Formula 1 team Alpine.
This demonstrates that some of the biggest sports stars earn a significant amount of money, which they wish to invest wisely. Several of them have chosen to do so by investing in a sports team, but James and Drake have taken it to the next level.
