Francis Ngannou has apologized to his fans after the shocking defeat to Anthony Joshua, who knocked him to the ground three times in two rounds.
Francis Ngannou, the Cameroonian professional boxer, has expressed his regret to his supporters following a significant defeat to Anthony Joshua, who has Nigerian heritage, in Saudi Arabia on Friday night.
Joshua, a former world heavyweight champion, secured a knockout victory over Ngannou in the second round.
Coming into the match with high hopes after a commendable boxing debut against Tyson Fury the previous year, Ngannou, also known for his mixed martial arts prowess, was unable to match the expertise of his Nigerian-British rival.
In the second round, unable to fully recover from an initial knockdown by Joshua in the first round, the 37-year-old Ngannou was taken out of the fight.
Joshua delivered a powerful right hand, prompting the referee to halt the bout during the second round.
Ngannou shared his disappointment on his X account, stating, “Sorry guys I let you all down. Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day. Thank you all for the love.”
The convincing victory over Ngannou could mean that Joshua finally gets his fight against Fury. Boxing fans around the world have been waiting for this fight for years, and later this year, it could become a reality.
Fury is set to fight Oleksandr Usyk in May. The outcome of this fight could have a significant impact on Joshua’s next match. It’s worth noting that Joshua has already lost two fights to Usyk.
