Novak Djokovic returns to the ATP Tour with a hard-fought victory, achieving a special milestone.
Grand Slam record holder Novak Djokovic has made a challenging yet successful return to the ATP Tour.
The Serbian battled his way through to the third round at the Indian Wells Masters, his first appearance since his semi-final exit at the Australian Open in January, with a 6:2, 5:7, 6:3 win against Aleksandar Vukic.
“It was tough to get past him. He played incredibly well,” Djokovic praised his Australian opponent.
Djokovic Joins Nadal in the “400 Club”
Djokovic, who missed out on his 25th Grand Slam title in Melbourne after losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner (Italy), secured his 400th Masters victory with this win.
This exceptional player, alongside Spaniard Rafael Nadal, is the only man to have reached the 400 milestone at the Masters level.
For the first time in five years, Djokovic is competing in Indian Wells, aiming for his sixth victory in the desert. His next challenge on the way to the round of 16 is Italian Luca Nardi.
Doubts About the Future
Djokovic has cast doubts about his future as he finds himself in the autumn of his career. He doesn’t have many years left, but it remains a question whether he will continue after this season.
The Serbian star is still keen on setting new records, but his body is making it challenging. Therefore, he’s not oblivious to the fact that a day will come when he must end his career.
