Usain Bolt, known as the fastest man on the planet, has playfully dismissed the notion of comparing him to Kylian Mbappe.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is known for his speed on the soccer field, but he can’t be compared to Usain Bolt, which the sprinter is aware of.
Recently, Mbappe showcased his speed in a Champions League match, recording an impressive speed that led to comparisons with Bolt.
Mbappe’s estimated speed was 10.9 seconds over 100 meters, which, while fast for a footballer, is still more than a second slower than Bolt’s world-record pace of 9.58 seconds.
This comparison caught the attention of many after BBC Sport highlighted Mbappe’s 100-meter speed as 10.9 seconds, “just over a second” behind Bolt’s record.
Despite the hype, Mbappe’s time wouldn’t even place him among the top five fastest women in the world, landing him at joint-63rd on the women’s all-time 100m list.
His time would also put him at joint-433rd globally among under-18 boys’ times over the past year, according to Pulse Sports.
When Bolt heard about these comparisons, he couldn’t help but laugh, noting even the female athletes are running faster. He shared his reaction during a conversation with Andreas Trajkovski, a long jumper and the founder of Jumpers World.
“I was laughing when I saw it. The girls are running faster than that,” he said.
