Vincent Enyeama has expressed his openness to rejoining the Super Eagles, according to Soccernet.ng.
Vincent Enyeama, the celebrated Nigerian goalkeeper, has expressed his openness to rejoining the Super Eagles, this time as a goalkeeper coach.
Regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in the national team’s history and among its most accomplished players, Enyeama has made 101 appearances for Nigeria. His playing career with the Super Eagles ended in 2015 following a dispute with then-manager Sunday Oliseh.
Since stepping away from the national team, Enyeama has largely remained distant, with his most notable show of support coming during the team’s run to the final in the last African Cup of Nations.
Nevertheless, in a recent conversation with Lagos Talks, Enyeama disclosed his readiness to return to the fold if given the chance.
“Becoming a goalkeeper coach, first of all, I’m not yet certified. If they want me to be like Zidane, who was not yet certified, but Real Madrid had faith in him, it can happen,” Enyeama said.
“I don’t have a problem if they wake up tomorrow and say, Vincent, come and be part of the setup. I will gladly do it. I can never say no to my country, I have always said that.”
With the departure of Nuno Carrapato, goalkeeper coach during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), following the end of Jose Peseiro’s contract, there’s an opening in the Super Eagles coaching staff.
Vincent Enyeama might see this as an opportunity to join the Super Eagles if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decides to bring in a new head coach.
However, it’s important to note that there are other prominent figures in Nigeria, such as Ike Shorunmu and Abideen Baruwa, who have previously held the goalkeeper coach position and could also be considered for the role.
