Barcelona Considers Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as Potential Xavi Replacement

Barcelona is contemplating a move to acquire Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, aiming to fill the position currently held by Xavi in the upcoming summer.

Xavi disclosed his intention to depart from the Catalan team at the conclusion of this season in January. Following this announcement, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been actively seeking a suitable candidate to take over as the head coach for the 2024/25 season.

Reports suggest that Barcelona is keen on securing Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as a potential successor to Xavi, with Deco having already initiated contact with the coach from the Basque region. Both Deco and Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, are admirers of the Gunners’ manager, despite his ongoing contract with the Premier League heavyweights, which extends until 2025.

Last week, it was reported by journalist Florian Plettenberg that the Catalan powerhouse has engaged in ‘substantial discussions’ with Hansi Flick, the former Bayern Munich and Germany manager known for his treble victory, regarding the head coaching role.

Following a recent goalless match against Athletic Club, Xavi’s team is focused on returning to their winning ways this Friday as they face Mallorca in a pivotal La Liga match.
