Dutch football expert René van der Gijp believes that Pep Guardiola wants to part ways with Erling Haaland.
According to the Today Inside-affiliated Dutchman, the Norwegian striker is in his final months at Manchester City.
“He is going to get rid of Haaland,” van der Gijp stated, according to Soccer News.
His colleague Wilfried Genee could not believe what he was hearing.
“Is he simply leaving City?” asked Genee, to which van der Gijp responded.
“It’s because Guardiola had his best games under Sergio Agüero. But Agüero drifted away from the striker position more often than he was there.”
“And later, Bernardo Silva also played as a striker. Guardiola believes that all teams play with five defenders against his team. And then you have a permanent striker who stands between three men.”
“So that’s not very useful. Haaland is a world-class striker. Guardiola just wants to play differently, not with Haaland as the striker,” said van der Gijp.
Jamie Carragher has also made a statement about Erling Haaland, believing that the Norwegian is not world-class.
Erling Haaland arrived at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, after The Cityzens triggered his release clause, which was 60 million euros. He has since played 60 Premier League games, scoring 55 goals.
But now it seems that the Norwegian star might be on his way out of the English club. If it becomes a reality, it will likely not be difficult for Haaland to find a new club. A quick look at his statistics makes it clear that he is highly sought after around the world.
