Liverpool is looking for a successor to Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving the club this summer. Sources report that the English club has made a significant offer to a sought-after coach.
Liverpool has made a three-year contract offer to Sporting Lisbon’s head coach Rúben Amorim, reports Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda.
Last week, Sepúlveda reported that representatives from Liverpool and Amorim were scheduled to negotiate a contract today, Monday.
According to recent information, a three-year contract offer has been tabled, and a near agreement has been reached on the financial terms.
Amorim recently stated that he would not make a final decision on his future until the end of the season. However, negotiations to replace Jurgen Klopp are still in a positive phase.
Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade adds that Liverpool is set to interview Amorim directly during April. Liverpool has reportedly not yet asked Sporting for permission to speak directly to the 39-year-old.
Amorim led Sporting to its first league championship in two decades in the 2020-21 season. Now, Amorim is on track for his second Portuguese championship with Sporting, as the team leads Benfica by four points at the top of the league table.
Amorim previously coached Braga, leading them to victory in the Portuguese League Cup in 2019. He has won the same competition twice with Sporting.
Liverpool is not the only club interested in Amorim. The same is said to be true for Bayern Munich. The German powerhouse has announced that they have decided to terminate their cooperation with Thomas Tuchel.
This means they are looking for a coach to replace the German by summer. Previously, they were linked with Xabi Alonso, but he has since confirmed that he will stay with Bayer Leverkusen for the coming season.
