“Hey there, sports enthusiasts! Guess what? Our very own sports benefactor, Chief Yemi Idowu, just got a new feather in his cap. On July 4, he was named the patron of the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF). Now, if you’ve been following the sports scene, you’ll know that Idowu is no stranger to grassroots sports development. Remember the Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle? Yep, he was the driving force behind its transformation into a world-class sports facility last year. And now, he’s all set to join hands with NSSF to boost school sports funding.
When Olabisi Joseph, the President of NSSF, was pinning the patron badge on Idowu, she was all praises for him. She said, “Your dedication to grassroots sports and your philanthropic efforts have touched many budding athletes’ lives. We believe your association with our federation will inspire our young athletes to reach for the stars.”
Idowu, on his part, is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work. He sees this as an extension of his ongoing efforts and wants to ensure that everyone is on board. He’s got a plan, folks! He wants to streamline the school sports calendar, align it with the holidays, and ensure everyone knows when events are happening. He’s also keen on getting more schools to share facilities and collaborate on events.
But that’s not all! Idowu has a vision for a national football tournament with the finals happening at the Maracana Stadium in November. How cool is that?
Joseph believes that Idowu’s unwavering support for young athletes and commitment to sports development in Nigeria make him the perfect fit for this role. As a patron, Idowu will play a key role in shaping the future of sports in Nigeria.
With over 18 years of experience in sports sponsorship and management, Idowu is also a co-founder and director of the successful Lagos Junior League and Chairman of Nath Boys Sports Club. Nath Boys have produced key members of the U17 World Cup winning team in 2013 and players like Wilfred Ndidi of English Premier League Leicester City FC.
So, folks, let’s gear up for an exciting time in school sports with Chief Yemi Idowu at the helm!”
